How Billy's free plan and free trial work

Billy, the BuddiesHR birthday bot, is free for Slack and Microsoft Teams workspaces under 10 seats. From 10 seats, you get a 30-day free trial, then need a subscription. Prices are on BuddiesHR pricing, free plan and trial.

Free under 10 seats#

While Billy counts fewer than 10 seats, there's no trial and nothing to pay. How seats are counted: how Billy counts seats.

When the trial starts#

The 30-day trial starts when setup is complete (your first channel in Slack, or Finish setup 🎉 in Teams) and Billy counts 10 seats or more. If you start below 10 seats, it starts the day you reach 10. If seats drop back under 10, the trial is removed and Billy is free again.

During the trial, admins see Free trial - N days left ⚠️ in the Slack admin settings, with View Pricing | Subscribe Now. In Teams, the Help card shows it after the first 3 days.

When the trial ends#

Without a subscription:

• Billy posts once in each channel: "Hey team - just a quick message to tell you that my 30d free trial has ended 😇…" with a link to reactivate it.
• No more celebrations, reminders or messages to newcomers.
• Slack: the admin settings only show The free plan for Billy has ended 🚨 with View Pricing | Subscribe Now. Members can still enter their dates, but no longer see Your reminders ⏰ or Upcoming events 🗓.
• Teams: every command answers "Oopsie daisy! Your free trial is over…" with the same links.

Your settings and dates are kept. Subscribe to start again.
