In Slack, Billy admins can stop Billy from celebrating a member from the Home tab, or delete the member's birthday or work anniversary with the Excel import.

Using Microsoft Teams? See remove someone's date in Microsoft Teams.

Option 1: Opt the member out from the Home tab#

This hides the date and stops the celebrations, without deleting the date.

Step 1: Click Edit events#

In the Upcoming events 🗓 section of Billy's Home tab, click Edit events.

Step 2: Select the member#

Pick the member and click Next.

Step 3: Check Opt out#

Under Birthday 🎂 (or Work anniversary 💼), check "Opt out - their birthdate won't be shared with their co-workers…". It's saved right away: Save only closes the window.

To delete only a work anniversary year, choose Clear in the year list.

Option 2: Delete the dates with the Excel import#

Step 1: Get a template#

On the channel's card in the admin settings, click Import dates (or Import birthdays) to download a fresh file. You can also reuse a file you sent before, from Billy's Messages tab.

Step 2: Write REMOVE in the date cells#

Find the member's row and write REMOVE (or DELETE or CLEAR), in capital letters:

  • In both birthday cells (Birthday month (1-12) and Birthday day (1-31)) to delete the birthday.
  • In all three work anniversary cells (month, day and year) to delete the work anniversary.

Step 3: Upload the file again#

Send the file to Billy in its Messages tab. Billy replies "Successfully updated N users ✅".
