Customize Billy's celebration messages and GIFs

In Slack, Billy admins can replace the closing line of a Billy celebration with their own text, and swap the GIF, for any upcoming day. The rest of the message (the intro and the list of people) stays the same.

A customization applies to one channel and one posting day: every celebration posted that day in that channel. It isn't available in Microsoft Teams.

Step 1: Click Customize messages#

In the admin settings, click ✍️ Customize messages. The button shows once Billy is in at least one channel.

Step 2: Select the channel (if needed)#

If Billy is active in several channels, pick one in "Select the channel for which you'd like to customize messages:".

Step 3: Click Edit message#

Upcoming celebrations lists the next 365 days, grouped by posting day, 20 at a time (use Next ➡️ and ⬅️ Previous). Click ✍️ Edit message next to the day you want to change.

Step 4: Write your message and click Update#

Fill out the message, the GIF URL, or both, then click Update.

• Message: replaces Billy's random closing line. The hint in the window says it's "appended", but it actually replaces the closing line. It's posted as plain text: Slack formatting and @mentions aren't applied.
• GIF: paste a direct link to a GIF. Billy posts it even if GIFs are turned off for the channel.

Remove a customization#

Click 🗑️ Delete customization next to the day, then confirm.
