How to add an org chart to Slack

Slack has no built-in org chart. Linky adds one your whole team can open from Slack, with /whois lookups. Install it and set up who reports to whom.

Slack doesn't come with a visual org chart. Linky, the BuddiesHR org chart app for Slack, adds one: you build it from your Slack members, and everyone can open it from Slack and look colleagues up with /whois.

Step 1: Install Linky#

Open the Linky page and click Add to Slack. Check that the right workspace is selected, then click Allow. Slack sends you to the Linky setup in the BuddiesHR web dashboard.

Step 2: Choose your profile fields#

Click Let's go → Choose fields, keep or change the fields people have on their profile, then click Save → Add employees. Names, job titles and pictures come from Slack. See get started with Linky.

Step 3: Build the hierarchy#

The list of your Slack members opens next to the chart. For each person:

  • pick their manager in Select a manager,
  • click No manager, then Confirm, for the people at the top,
  • click Exclude, then Exclude, for anyone who shouldn't appear.

Full details: place people on the org chart.

Step 4: Make it fit your company#

Step 5: Share it with your team#

Anyone in the workspace can open the chart from Linky's Home tab with Open org chart ↗️, and look someone up from any conversation with /whois @name. See open the org chart and look someone up with /whois.
