/whois says the user isn't in the org chart
Fix the "User not found in the org chart" message from the Linky /whois command in Slack, and see what the other /whois error messages mean.
The Linky /whois command in Slack shows "User not found in the org chart. They might not have been added yet." when the person is in your Slack workspace but hasn't been placed on the org chart. In the /whois search window, the same problem shows as "This user is not in the org chart yet."
Why it happens#
- They joined Slack recently. Linky never places new members on its own: an admin has to give them a manager.
- They were excluded or removed. An admin left them out of the chart on purpose.
- They're a Slack guest. Guests are ignored unless an admin includes them.
Fix it#
Ask a Linky admin to place the person on the chart. If you're an admin, see place people on the org chart. For someone who was excluded, use Add back in the same list.
To hear about new members as they join, turn on change notifications.
Other /whois messages#
- "This command only works with users from your workspace (no bots, no external users)." (or "This user is not in your workspace." in the search window) means the person is outside your Slack workspace, for example in a shared channel. Linky can't show their profile.
- "This is a bot account" means you picked a bot. Pick a teammate instead.
