How does Clappy work?

How Clappy kudos work in Slack: everyone gets 5 claps a week by default, received claps never expire and buy rewards, and every clap earns XP.

SlackUpdated Oct 7, 20262 min read

Clappy, the BuddiesHR kudos app for Slack, gives everyone the same budget of claps (👏) to thank coworkers, 5 per week by default. The claps people receive never expire and can be spent on rewards your company sets up.

Claps you give#

  • Everyone gets the same number of claps to give: 5 per week by default. Your admins can change the number, and switch to a daily or monthly allowance. See claps per week.
  • The allowance resets at the start of each period, in your company's timezone: every Monday at 12:00am with a weekly allowance. Unused claps are lost.
  • You give claps with /clap or any Give 👏 button in Slack, or with Give kudos 👏 in the web dashboard. See give your first clap.
  • You can also add claps to someone else's public recognition with Clap this too 👏, unless your admins turned it off.

Claps you receive#

  • Received claps never expire.
  • Your Redeemable balance grows with the claps you receive and goes down when you claim a reward. It only shows once your company offers rewards. See redeem a reward.

Public or private#

  • Public recognitions are posted in your company's kudos channel, if your admins picked one, and sent to recipients by direct message.
  • Private recognitions are only sent by direct message. Clappy admins can still see them in the web dashboard and in exports. See who can see private recognitions.

Levels and leaderboards#

  • Every clap you give or receive earns 1 XP toward 10 levels.
  • The leaderboard ranks people by claps given + received, this week, this month, last week or last month. Admins always see it, and everyone else sees it if your admins turned it on.

Who manages Clappy#

Clappy admins change the settings and see the admin side of the web dashboard. They are the person who installed Clappy, your BuddiesHR workspace admins, and anyone added in the Admins section of the settings. See add or remove a Clappy admin.

Slack or web dashboard?#

You give kudos, follow your claps and see the leaderboard both in Slack, on Clappy's Home tab, and in the BuddiesHR web dashboard. The dashboard also has the full feed, rewards, your history and your notification settings. Admins manage every setting there: the Slack Home tab only shows them a read-only summary. See sign in to the web dashboard.
