Why can't Clappy post in my Slack channel?
What Clappy's Slack channel errors mean (archived, not found, restricted or bot removed) and how to fix each one so kudos and Appreciation Day post again.
When Clappy, the BuddiesHR kudos app for Slack, can't post a public recognition or an Appreciation Day message in a channel, it sends a direct message to the people in Clappy's admin list (by default, the person who installed Clappy). It starts with "⚠️ Clappy tried to post a notification in #channel, but…" and ends with a ⚙️ Notification Settings button that opens Clappy's settings in the web dashboard. The end of the first line tells you what to fix.
To pick another channel, open the Settings tab of Clappy's admin side (see find the admin settings):
- for public recognitions, use
Which channels should public kudos be posted in?in thePublic kudossection. See the public posting channel. - for Appreciation Day, edit its channel in the
Appreciation Daysection. See set up Appreciation Day.

"…but posting there is restricted."#

Errors when you save a channel#
When you pick a channel in the setup or in the settings, Clappy checks it before saving. If it can't use the channel, you see one of these messages instead, for example with a channel named #kudos:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "#kudos" is archived, so Clappy can't post there. Unarchive it, or pick another channel. | Unarchive the channel in Slack, or pick another one. |
| Clappy can't see "#kudos". It's either a private channel Clappy hasn't been added to, or it no longer exists. … | Pick a public channel. |
| Clappy isn't in "#kudos". Invite it to the channel in Slack, then try again… | Invite Clappy to the channel, then save again. |
| "#kudos" only lets certain people post, so Clappy can't send there. Allow Clappy to post in the channel, or pick another one. | Change the channel's posting permissions in Slack, or pick another channel. |
