How does Palmy handle public holidays and half days?
Palmy counts weekdays only and has no public holiday calendar, so people lower the number of days themselves for bank holidays and request half days as 0.5.
Palmy, the BuddiesHR time-off tracker for Slack, has no public holiday calendar and no country settings. It counts the weekdays (Monday to Friday) between the start and end dates, and people change that number when a holiday falls inside their leave.
Adjust the number of days for a holiday#
In the request form, the Number of « … » days field is filled in automatically, with the hint "Edit if your country observes public holidays inside this range." Lower it by one for each holiday in the range, then submit.
For example, PTO from Monday to Friday counts 5 days. If Wednesday is a public holiday, change it to 4.

Only this number is taken off the balance.
Request a half day#
There's no half-day option, but the number of days accepts any decimal. Pick the same start and end date and enter 0.5 for a half day. Other values work too, such as 0.25 for a quarter day or 1.5 for a day and a half. On the web, the arrows of the field go up and down in steps of 0.5, but you can type any decimal.
Log public holidays as leave#
Palmy comes with a 📅 Public Holidays leave type. Use it if your team wants holidays to show in Palmy, for example in the shared calendar. You can disable it if you don't need it: see leave types.
Weekends#
Saturdays and Sundays are never counted. Palmy can't be set up for a different working week, so people working other days adjust the number by hand.
