How do approvals work in Palmy?

In Palmy, every time off request needs one approval from the approver the requester picks. There are no fixed approvers or multi-step approvals.

In Palmy, the BuddiesHR time-off tracker for Slack, every time off request needs one approval. The person asking for time off picks the approver in Approver (usually your manager), and that person approves or rejects it. Admins can also decide on any pending request from the web dashboard.

Can I set a default approver or an approval chain?#

No. The Approval process and Manager selection settings are fixed:

  • "Time off requests must be approved by the user's manager."
  • "Users select their own manager."

There's no default approver per person or team, no second approval step and no automatic approval rule. Palmy shows this as 📊 Approval: Manager selection in the Home tab.

In Slack, the form fills in the approver from your last request, so picking the same manager again takes no extra click.

Can people approve their own time off?#

Yes. If someone picks themselves as approver, Palmy warns them the request "will be auto-approved without manager review".

  • In Slack, Palmy approves the request as soon as they submit it.
  • On the web, the request is created as Pending. They approve it themselves from Pending your approval in the web dashboard.

Palmy doesn't send DMs about a request someone approves for themselves. Admins see these requests in Vacation requests like any other.

What if the approver is away?#

  • The approver gets one reminder about 72 hours after the request is created, if it's still pending.
  • An admin can approve or reject it from Admin › Vacation requests. See approve or reject a time off request.
  • The requester can cancel it and send a new one to someone else.
