What notifications does Palmy send?
The Slack DMs and emails Palmy sends to people requesting time off, to approvers and to admins, and when each one goes out, from submission to reminders.
Palmy, the BuddiesHR time-off tracker for Slack, sends Slack DMs at each step of a request. Workspaces where Palmy isn't connected to Slack get the main updates by email instead.
If you request time off#
| When | Message |
|---|---|
| You submit | 🟠 Your leave request was submitted, with Cancel request |
| It's approved | A DM saying your request has been approved ✅ |
| It's rejected | 🛑 Your leave request has been rejected. with the reason |
| An admin cancels it | ⚫️ Your leave request has been canceled by <name>. |
The first DM is updated in place as your request moves on, so its status always matches.
If you're the approver#
| When | Message |
|---|---|
| Someone picks you | 🆕 New leave request from <name>, with Approve and Reject |
| You decide | The same DM is updated with your decision |
| A request is still pending about 72 hours after it was sent | One reminder, ⏰ N pending leave requests waiting for your review |
| The requester cancels | The same DM is updated to say the requester canceled |
If you pick yourself as approver, Palmy sends no DMs about that request.
If you're an admin#
- Calendar problems, if the shared calendar gets disconnected or becomes read-only. This goes to the admin who connected it.
- Slack status problems, if Palmy can't update someone's status.
- Channel problems, if Slack doesn't let Palmy post the daily announcement in the chosen channel.
In a channel#
If an admin turned on daily announcements, Palmy posts 🌴 People on leave today in the chosen channel every day.
