How SimplePerf performance reviews work
Learn how SimplePerf review cycles, the four review types, participants, cycle statuses and review visibility fit together before your first review.
In SimplePerf, every performance review happens inside a review cycle: a round of reviews with a name, a deadline, one form per review type and a list of people being reviewed.
Review types#
A cycle can include any of these four types:
| Review type | Who writes it |
|---|---|
Self review |
Each participant reviews themselves. |
Peer review |
The peers you select review the participant. |
Upward review |
The participant's reports review them as their manager. |
Manager review |
The participant's manager reviews them. |
Each type has its own form (its own questions).
Participants and reviewers#
Participants are the people being reviewed. For each one, you choose who writes their manager, peer and upward reviews. SimplePerf turns this into a list of reviews to write for every reviewer.
Cycle statuses#
- Draft: you're still building it. Nobody is notified.
- Scheduled: it will start automatically at the date and time you set.
- Live: reviewers have been notified and are writing their reviews. Reminders go out until the deadline.
- Done: the deadline has passed and the cycle shows "Cycle ended". You can reopen it with a new deadline.
Who sees what#
- Admins see every cycle, every submitted review with all its answers, and can download them.
- Reviewers see their own list of reviews to write.
- The person reviewed sees reviews about them either as soon as each one is submitted, or only once their manager releases them. You choose this per cycle.
- Managers who write a manager review in the cycle get one tab per report, where they can read every submitted review about that report.
- Any question can be marked
Hide answers from the reviewee: the person reviewed never sees those answers. Admins and the reviewee's manager still can.
